Recruitment open for WEASA 2021 – Apply now!

We are very pleased to announce that recruitment for the Warsaw Euro-Atlantic Summer Academy (WEASA) 2021 edition is now open!  This year’s theme is: “Whose technology? Whose interests? Power and influence in the digital age” 

WEASA is a summer offer of two-week classes addressed to experts – such as analysts, political advisors, think thank and NGO employees, civil servants, and journalists – coming from Eastern Partnership, Western Balkans countries and Poland. Due to the pandemic situation, this year’s edition will be held entirely online.  

WEASA 2021 will take place July 12-21 2021. Due to restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of the safety of our participants and staff, we have opted to organize the 2021 edition of the academy in a wholly online format.

WEASA 2021 will focus on the following topics: 

  • Content moderation, neutrality, and big tech 
  • 5G, security, and geopolitics 
  • Financial systems, cryptocurrency, and sovereignty 
  • Online social movements, radicalization, and authoritarian responses 
  • Anatomy of a journalistic investigation 
  • Pandemic disinformation 
  • Open source investigations 
  • Digital security
  • Digital Transatlantic rift 

 

WEASA offers more than only lectures – participants can take part in practical workshops conducted by experts from all over the world and informal debates allowing experience sharing. Once the WEASA program is completed, participants are eligible to continue to take part in the alumni network – which provides opportunities to further education, meet and network with alumni from previous editions and assist in future WEASA editions. 

 

Eligibility: 

WEASA 2021 is addressed to persons who are simultaneously citizens of and/or residents in one of the Eastern Partnership countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), the Western Balkans (Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Poland. 

WEASA participants should come from a cross-section of society, including public administration, academia, think-tanks, media, and civil society organizations. Participants from the public administration can come from the central and local level. We do not expect applicants to already be experts in digital affairs, we want to help them learn more about the issues through this academy!
