Jerzy Buzek to inaugurate the WEASA 2015 edition
Professor Buzek is the Chairman of the Conference of European Parliament Committee Chairs; Chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, former President of the European Parliament (2009-2012), and former Prime Minister of Poland (1997-2001).
Before entering politics, Professor Buzek was active in academic research and environmental protection. He was nominated as representative of Poland to the International Energy Agency – Programme of Greenhouse Gas Effect (1992-1997). In 1997, Mr Buzek co-founded the Polish-German Science Network for Energy and Environment Protection INCREASE. He was also the founder of the Consortium for Atmosphere Protection in Silesia (1994).
Mr Buzek holds an M.S. degree and a Ph.D. degree in sciences from the Silesian University of Technology where he taught from 1974 to 1994. He also taught at the Technical University of Opole in 1994-1997, and served as the Vice-Rector of the Polonia University in Częstochowa in 2001-2004.
Professor Buzek is a Doctor honoris causa of the Universities in Dortmund, Seoul and Isparta, as well as several Polish universities.
